Townsville Tourist Attractions - Part 1

With Mum in town - we showed her some of the highlights - the Strand, Mt Stewart Lookout and the Herveys Range Heritage Tea Rooms.

Normally I wouldn't put a cafe on the higlight list - as there a plenty of cafes in Townsville - but this one is different.
Firstly it is not in Townsville - but west of it up the Hervey Ranges - on the escarpment. Noticeably cooller.
Secondly it is apparently North Queensland's oldest building - a split log construction built circa 1865.
Finally - it serves a very very expensive cup of coffee - $50 / cup - and no it is not Moconna Expresso or even Campos - it is Kopi Luwak - the worlds most expensive coffee!

FYI
Kopi Luwak is an Indonesian coffee made from beans that have passed through the digestive system of the Asian Palm Civet (Paradoxurus hermaphroditus), known in Indonedia as the luwak. Collected from the floor of the jungle, the defecated beans are dried and roasted, and then exported for a price of up to AU$1,250 per kilogram. (Thank you Wikipedia)

I wonder if Poppy would eat coffee beans.......

  1. Great to see your journey to the promised land ... sorry could not help myself as a North Queenslander and I am sure by now you are aware of the difference between North Qld and Qld!
Makes me home sick reading the trip north ... as a kid we used to stop in at all those places on our treks south and back home to see Brisbane based rels. If you get a chance take a drive north to a little place called Aloomba - my grandparents owned a fair share of the cane farm territory around Aloomba and Gordonvale (McGuigans). Used to be able to look out the kitchen window at Bellenden Kerr range and in cane season run ahead of the cane fires and get absolutely sooty running through the cane after the burn off! In the wet we would hear the crocodiles in the Bahanna Creek and get a few extra days off school as the river would come up and cut the bridge to Gordonvale. Look forward to hearing more on your adventures. Enjoy... Cheers Chris
